Halloween Down South

If you grew up in Canada or the United States, your five senses may gearing up for fall. They are waiting anxiously for falling leaves, cozy sweaters, cooler temps, and most definitely the pumpkin spice lattes. Well, pumpkin spice ANYTHING, let’s be honest.

If you live in Mexico, the cooler temps are still a ways away. The leaves don’t fall much, unless someone accidentally chops down a palm branch when going for a coconut. Luckily, pumpkin spice IS a thing in the local Starbucks. And, although the Day of the Dead is the biggest fall celebration, Halloween has caught on in some areas, especially those populated by expats.

Trick or Treat!

Many of our Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta neighborhoods do welcome trick or treaters. You can even walk along the Malecon, Puerto Vallarta’s ocean promenade, to see the scary sights. If the kids want to dress up, and don’t mind a bit of spicy candy, they’ll have a spook-tacular night.

Candy Clean-up

Beware, these sweet treats don’t taste like your childhood Tootsie Rolls. It’s a sweet and spicy battle in every lick or bite. Try mango-flavored lollipops rolled in chili, or spicy tamarindo fruit leather with salt and chili mixed in the recipe.

Party on

If you’re in Vallarta for the ghostly holiday, drop by the American School for their epic Halloween party. They’ve got rides, pumpkin contests, carnival-style games, and haunted houses for all ages. You can’t miss the chance to dress up in your bloodiest finery and enjoy an evening of creepy fun!
