Getting Hitched: Working with a Custom Wedding Dress Designer

Every bride imagines their wedding day in a different way. Some imagine grandiose high ceilings and crystallized chandeliers, others want to feel sand between their toes or feel the shade of high trees high above, and some picture a small intimate casual ceremony under the stars. The reality is that no two wedding ceremonies are alike. A marriage represents a sacred bond between two individuals that were lucky enough to find one another in the vast sea of people that we meet every day.

Regardless of the ceremony, if there is one thing that is one of the most challenging things for a bride when it comes to planning her wedding it’s having to find the perfect dress for the occasion. The thing is, finding the perfect dress for the occasion is a tough task. It’s your day. It’s only supposed to happen once in your life…why not choose to make the perfect dress? Working with a custom wedding dress designer is without a doubt something you should consider for your big day.

What many brides don’t realize is that contrary to popular belief, creating your dream dress with a custom wedding dress designer doesn’t have to be extremely pricey, complicated or stressful. If you find the right designer, they’ll not only be able to work with your specific measurements, body type and personal preferences – but they can also work with your budget.

Erica Maree loves to work with brides to create unique and individual looks according to her style and taste. We work with expert embroiderers and an experience custom wedding dress designer team to create wedding looks that reflect the spirit of the bride on the outside.

Here’s a bit of an idea on how the design and creation process works:

First, it’s good to have an idea of what you like, and what you don’t like so that during your first meeting you can provide a good idea of what you’re looking for. Do a bit of research on the right dresses for your body type, fabrics and textiles that you like, and cuts, draping and the length you’d like. Have a few images of dresses that you like and point out the elements that you’d like to add or stay away from.

During or after this initial meeting, the team will put together an initial sketch for you similar to the one pictured below.

Once vision for the dress is agreed upon, it’s a good idea to disclose the budget you’re working with so that we can look into the right fabrics, embroidery work, and design for your price range. Then it’s time to take measurements and get to work!

Once embroidery and design work is finished, we begin to put all the pieces together to get ready for a fitting. This is the stage where length and little details can be altered for the absolute best fit.

Having a completely unique dress made 100% from scratch for you on your special day is an invaluable addition to your wedding ceremony. Wearing something that fits perfectly in all the right places is not only incredibly flattering but it is also an opportunity to create your custom dream wedding dress with all the details you think are important.

The Erica Maree wedding team works with expert embroiderers to create stunning wedding dresses for brides on their big day. Our most recent wedding dress project, which is featured in the images featured above, wouldn’t have been possible without our extraordinarily talented lead embroiderer: Ana.

“I am originally from Argentina, but have been living in Mexico for the past 11 years. By being surrounded by nature, animals, threads and fabrics, I live the life I have always dreamed of. I love doing anything creative because to me, creation is an act of freedom.” – Ana

Here at the Erica Maree studio, which doubles as a bohemian fashion and accessory shop and custom wedding dress designer studio in beautiful Puerto Vallarta, we believe in the value of supporting artisans whose handicrafts have been passed down for generations. Each one of our pieces is created by hand with heart and soul, and provides fair labor wages for artisans in order to keep the magic of traditional Mexican hand embroidery alive.

As always, thanks for shopping handmade!
