Accentuate: 4 Ways Accessories Can Transform Your Look in a Huge Way

We’ve all had those moments that no matter how many clothes we have in our closets, we just simply cannot find anything to wear. We’ve worn our current favorite outfits 5 times in the last month, and have realized that we probably can’t get away with it again. But you’ve got an exciting first date, or your group of friends is getting all dressed up to celebrate a birthday at the new restaurant lounge in town, and you really, really need to look good.

Instead of heading out and trying to buy a whole new outfit on the cheap and in a rush, what so many of us forget is that it is so much easier just to grab a new accessory or two. You can also mix and match with accessories that you already have to create a whole new look!

Here are 5 examples of ways that accessories can change your look entirely:

  1. Heels and Jewelry

There is very little a pair of heels and some bling can’t do to help dress up an otherwise casual outfit to make it perfect for the occasion. In the image above, you see the exact same romper that you can find on our website here. One the left, it’s very casual and beachy (and ultra comfy), and on the right, we have the same romper with some added accessories. Who knew a beachy romper could be so glam?

2. A Bow Tie

For those of use whose idea of dressing up doesn’t necessarily include heels or blingy jewelry, bow ties have become a super trendy and gender neutral accessory. There is something about a bow tie that no matter the print or design, they will always give off a fun, formal vibe which makes them perfect for dressing up an otherwise casual button up. Try an embroidered bow tie like the Erica Maree Coco Joe Bow Tie to add a fun, yet delicate statement to your look.

3. Long Earrings

Earrings that are at least shoulder length or longer, like these Erica Maree Thunderbird Duster Earrings, are extremely eye-catching and keep focus around your face, and less on the outfit that happens to be the same one you wore to another birthday dinner less than a month ago. A common myth about long earrings is that you need to have a long neck and/or long hair to pull them off. This is totally untrue! Anyone can rock these beauties. Look for color, contrast, and length to create a whole new look with these super fun accessories.

4. An Oversized Clutch

The great thing about an oversized clutch like the Erica Maree Otomi Clutch, is that it is a functional accessory that can be added to basically any look. Everything you’ll need for almost any occassion will fit inside, while it adds some depth and excitement to your look. Like bow ties, clutches tend to be associated with a more formal look as well, so it’s a great way to dress a casual look up just a tad to make it appropriate for an occasion with friends or family.

Here at the Erica Maree studio, which doubles as a bohemian fashion and accessory shop in beautiful Puerto Vallarta, we believe in the value of supporting artisans whose handicrafts have been passed down for generations. Each one of our pieces is created by hand with heart and soul, and provides fair labor wages for artisans in order to keep the magic of traditional Mexican hand embroidery alive.

As always, thanks for shopping handmade!
